COVID-19 Ticket Update and News

2020-2021 Season Update

Theatre Charlotte exists to inspire, entertain, and unite our community with outstanding theatre opportunities that are accessible and relevant. An unspoken but essential part of our mission is to ensure that our audiences, volunteers, and artists are safe and healthy. Our staff has been working hard over the last few months to create theatre experiences while ensuring safety. We have added online virtual programming like Isolation Radio Hours, Virtual Nights for Singing, Quarantine the Musical and more. But we know that there is no replacement for the in person theatre experience and we want to get back to that as soon as it is safe to do so.

With the safety of our volunteers, artists, and audiences in mind, we have made the difficult decision to alter our 2020-2021 season. It is now our intent to produce the following line up:

Twelve Angry Men - October 16-November 1
A Christmas Carol - December 4-December 20
The Sunshine Boys - January 29-February 14
The Sound of Music - March 26-April 18
Pippin - May 28-June 13

Our 2020 Summer productions for TCjr and Student Theatre Guild have been postponed to the summer of 2021.

We made these changes for a number of reasons. First of all, moving the start of our season to mid-October allows us the necessary time to prepare for changes to make our facility safe both for audience members and our actors and volunteers. Also, the most challenging shows in regard to actor safety are our musicals. Musicals are a problematic because of their large casts, the risks associated with singing, dancing, and touching, and the use of microphones positioned on our actors’ faces. For these reasons, we decided to postpone any musicals until the spring of 2021.

In addition to the adjustments we have made to our line up, we will also be making changes to our facility and policies to ensure everyone’s safety.

We will be taking measures to ensure social distancing is possible for audience members. Capacity and distancing regulations will be based on government and CDC guidelines at the time of each show. All tickets, with the exception of Star Subscriptions, will be issued as general admission. Once capacity for a performance is reached, staff will assign seats to allow for recommended distancing between groups.

Additionally, we will require all staff, front of house volunteers, and audience members to wear masks when inside the building. We understand that this is not the most comfortable way to enjoy theatre, but we must put each other’s safety first. In order to experience theatre as a community, it is imperative that we respect and protect each other and that means wearing a mask. It is for the health and safety of each and every patron that we have made this decision for everyone.

We will also be taking added steps to clean and sanitize our facility. The theatre, seating, lobby, restrooms, backstage, dressing rooms, greenroom, and offices will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each rehearsal and performance. Hand sanitizing stations will be located in lobby, restrooms, backstage, and dressing rooms.

We are still working on plans and decisions for distancing in our restrooms, opening our bar and concessions, and handling (or not handling) paper tickets. We will keep you updated as these decisions are made.

Single tickets for Twelve Angry Men and A Christmas Carol will go on sale on July 27th. Single tickets for The Sunshine Boys, The Sound of Music, and Pippin will go on sale at a later date still to be determined.

We hope that this is the last change we will make to our upcoming season, but, as you know, we are dealing with an unprecedented situation. Like you, we are doing our best to plan with the information that is currently available to us. Please be patient as we work through these and any further changes.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Dreamgirls Update

We had very much hoped we’d be able to reschedule CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF and DREAMGIRLS to bring them to you at some point, but because of the uncertainty we all live with today, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel these two shows.

If you have tickets to either, or both, of these shows, please click on the link below to let us know how you would like us to handle your tickets.

Cancelling two shows (and postponing the Broadway Ball, our biggest fundraising event) has put us in a very difficult financial situation. We are working hard to stay afloat so that we can bring you more great local theatre in our 93rd Season! If you are able, please consider donating your tickets to help sustain Theatre Charlotte through this difficult time. As a bonus, everyone who donates tickets back to the theatre will be entered into a drawing for a reserved parking space when you are attending our shows!

We are also working to bring you exclusive online content from the cast of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof! This content will be available to anyone who donates tickets back to the theatre.

You can also choose to convert the value of your purchased tickets into a credit to use against season ticket packages or single tickets to shows in our 2020-21 season.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Theatre Charlotte in Season 93 and we hope you will enjoy some of the virtual programming we are offering during this time. Please see below for information about season ticket packages and online programs!

Thank you for your support!
